The "XL" Kershaw-Emerson now features a D2 blade steel. D2, a high-carbon, high-chromium tool steel, is a preferred choice among knife makers, offering excellent edge retention, hardness, and increased corrosion resistance compared to other high-carbon steels.

The CQC-4KXL D2 boasts a sizable, useful blade that measures just under 4 inches in length. For a secure and comfortable grip, the knife is equipped with a G10 front scale and a steel back. A sturdy frame lock secures the blade in the open position during use and can be easily released to close the knife.

Notably, the CQC-4KXL D2 incorporates the patented Emerson wave-shaped feature. This small, wave-shaped tab on the top of the blade is designed to catch on the pocket seam, enabling the knife to open instantly as it is drawn from the pocket – a feature highly valued by military, rescue, and law enforcement professionals. Alternatively, the knife can be opened manually using the built-in thumb disk.
