The Leek's handle is made of simple, yet strong and beautiful, bead-blasted stainless steel. Kershaw also offers the Leek in a variety of other handle styles, including a "smoked" double-anodized aluminum handle for a unique look, and a black tungsten DLC-coated handle for a non-reflective surface.

The Leek comes equipped with a Kershaw pocket clip, which is designed to be worn with the handle inside your pocket. It is important to note that the clip should not be worn on a belt, as this would be an unsafe way to carry the knife.

The SpeedSafe assisted opening system allows for smooth one-handed deployment of the blade by applying manual pressure to the thumb stud or blade protrusion. The torsion bar, which is the heart of the SpeedSafe system, keeps the knife closed and prevents it from opening by gravity alone. Once the blade is out of the handle, the torsion bar moves along its half-moon track, smoothly opening the blade and locking it into position, ready for use. SpeedSafe knives are not considered switchblades, as they do not deploy with the push of a button or by gravity alone, but rather require the user to manually overcome the torsion bar's resistance.

Ken Onion, a renowned custom knife maker, is the designer behind the Leek's distinctive features. His involvement in the knife industry dates back to his youth, when he was inspired by a local blacksmith. After years of preparation and experience, Onion created his first SpeedSafe knife, and he continues to work closely with Kershaw to ensure that each knife meets his high standards for performance and quality.
